Of original Indian culture, the use of this kind of ritual stem-dish can be found in Cambodia since the beginning of the 12th century. During Ayutthaya period, particularly in the 17th and 18th century, the form, with richer ornementation, took an increasing importance in both public and religious aspects of Thailand society.
A similar pair of dishes can be found in the collections of the ‘Musée de l’Impératrice Eugénie, Château de Fontainebleau’, France. Another one is kept in the ‘Smithsonian Institution’, Washington.

茶具
1957年陕西省西安市唐长安城平康坊遗址出土
高4厘米、口径17.4厘米
茶托宽平沿，浅腹，圈足，平面呈五曲花瓣形，边缘微向上卷。其圈足内刻“左策使宅茶库金涂拓子壹拾枚共重玖拾柒两伍钱一”。同出的鎏金饮茶托共7件，其中一件圈足内錾刻“大中十四年八月造成浑金涂茶拓子一枚金银共重拾两捌钱叁分”，另五件刻“左策使宅茶库一”，这些器物形制基本相同，出土于唐长安城平康坊东北隅，为唐宣宗大中十四年(公元860年)前后左策使茶库之用具。

茶托有时被称为盏、托盏，唐人也写成“茶拓”。据唐李匡义《资暇录》记载：“始建中(公元780年-783年)，蜀相崔宁之女以茶盅无衬，病其烫指，取楪子承之。既啜而杯倾，乃以蜡环楪子之央，其杯遂定。即命匠以漆环代蜡，进于蜀相。蜀相奇之，为制名而话于宾亲，人人为便，用于代是。后传者更环其底，愈新其制，以致百状焉。”李匡义认为盏托最早出现于唐代，是为喝茶时防止手指被烫而设计。南宋程大昌在《演繁露》也说：“台盏亦始于盏托，托始于唐，前世无有也。”

但考古发现证明真正的盏托出现于晋代，长沙沙子塘2号墓出土的一例是目前所知最早的。南朝墓中出现的更多了，有的与盏成套出土，其形制与唐代的托盏相同。早期茶托盘底心下凹，周围有凸起托圈，这批“左策使”银茶托即承袭此种形制。至晚唐时，茶托的托圈增高，有的像是在托盘上加了一只小碗。由于茶托的造型和功用都很特殊，所以与它配套的器物大抵皆为茶具。（ 撰文：赵永 )
