A large German silver-gilt inkstand, probably Hanau, circa 1880
the shaped-oval stand resting on four paw feet with flowers, the border embossed and pierced with medallions, musical instruments and trophies, the stand embossed with two medallions, one representing a Young man with helmet hat, the other five figures in the Renaissance style, with two cylindrical pots, a kidney-shaped box with lying lion finial, two roebucks, the stem surrounded with a female bust and applied with a candle-holder

le plateau de forme ovale chantournée reposant sur quatre pieds griffes sommés de fleurs, le bord repoussé et ajouré de médaillons, instruments de musique et trophées, le plateau repoussé de deux médaillons ovales, l’un représentant un jeune homme coiffé d’un chapeau à plume, l’autre cinq personnages de la Renaissance sous une draperie, serti de deux pots cylindriques couverts (dont un ajouré), une boîte de forme rognon à prise en lion couché, deux chevreuils sur des terrasses rondes, le fût coiffé d’un buste de femme casquée, orné d’un porte-bougie

In overall good condition. Base wobbling. Marked on tray, earlier marks under cylindrical pots and inside kidney-shaped box. Impressive size.
